5 hours return

The trail head to Cape Raoul starts at the entrance to the Raoul Bay Retreat accommodation on the Tasman Peninsula, right next to the Sauna. The track firstly winds its way through some bush. Soon you will cross a little creek that has a fallen tree bridge crossing. Shortly after the track splits right for Shipstern Bluff and left for Cape Raoul. The left track  gradually climbs upward and suddenly bursts out to the dramatic Raoul Bay Lookout. This is reached after around half an hours walk. Just when your breathless with the incredible vista take a little track to the right and your vision is again improved to take in a lot more. From here you can see along the huge cliffs towards Cape Raoul, down to Shipstern bluff, Bruny Island, Mt Wellington and behind all that is the extensive Southwest of Tasmania.  A lot of time can be spent here just taking it all in. On  rare occassions the place is blanketed with snowThe weather is always changing the view especially at sunset so if you can time it to be here when it does you are in for a treat.
Be wary of the weather as the wind can really whip up the cliffs. After all the surroundings were not made with pleasant weather. It really is wild.
If that was enough for your activities just retrace your steps the way you come, but if your heading to Cape Raoul just head along the cliff top towards the east. Now the track is mainly flat for a while before it drops down to the plateau of Cape Raoul. Many opportunities can be had with openings along the way that give you great  views. The surrounding bush is constantly changing, from lushed fern sections to Sheok trees dominating then Banksias. There are many window opportunities that give you great views along the 200m cliff and towards the 300m cliff of Cape Pillar, the highest in Australia.
Soon enough you will be also impressed with the track work as it approaches a tarn that sometimes dries up. You may think that your now at Cape Raoul because of the rock formations
along the cliff, just keep going a little further until you find a fork in the track. The right fork will take you to the top of Cape Raoul and the left takes you to a side angle. Both are highly recommended as they are close together and equally rewarding. A seal colony is almost always at the base of Cape Raoul so keep your eyes peeled..Just contemplating life.
